Support Philoptochos Response to COVID-19

The Philoptochos Board would like to share a few ways that we can continue to support our communities during this incredibly difficult time we are facing. As Philoptochos members, we are accustomed to volunteering and supporting various programs. Since we are not able to interact with others during this crisis, please consider the following options to continue our ministry.

Project Bread
The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos is donating $1000 to Project Bread www.projectbread.org which provides meals and food assistance throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Additionally, to allow Chapters and individuals to donate, we have set up a Virtual Walking Team called the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Team.  Because Project Bread can not schedule the “Walk for Hunger” fundraiser this year, you can make your donation through the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Team.

The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Team raised $4,000 in support of Project Bread!

Social Services
The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos can assist the members of our community who are experiencing financial hardship, especially in these stressful times through the Social Services ministry. If you or know of anyone who is facing an economic or financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and need emergency help meeting rent or mortgage payment, utility, food, childcare, medical or other daily living costs visit the Metropolis Philoptochos Social Services Page for guidelines and submission procedures.

Chapters Support Locally
We encourage each Chapter to reach out to your local food pantry or regional food bank and make monetary donations.  Most food banks are not accepting food donations because of the fear of spreading the virus.

Keep up with the wonderful work our Chapters have been doing throughout the pandemic!

Community Outreach
Continuing outreach to our Parishioners and Philoptochos members is of the utmost importance. This is the time to focus on our Parish communities and do what we can during this crisis. While we are all at home, call and spread some cheer to someone who needs to hear a happy voice or, write a note and tell someone you are thinking of them. These are such easy ways to let someone know that you care!

Metropolis of Boston Support
Consider supporting our Metropolis as well. A fund has been initiated to support the many ongoing ministries of the Metropolis.

National Philoptochos Response
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the National Philoptochos has disbursed $50,000 -  $25,000 to Meals on Wheels and $25,000 to the Feeding America Network. If Chapters and/or individuals are interested in donating, please visit  www.philoptochos.org/donation and donate to the National Philoptochos Emergency Fund.  The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos has donated $500 to this appeal.
