What is Philoptochos?

Some 70 years ago at a time when a women’s role was that of a mother and homemaker, and her effort in leadership in the world of business, education, and government was but a dream, His Eminence Archbishop Athenagoras had a vision of the role women could play in the life of the Orthodox Church. Thus Philoptochos was born!

The philanthropic endeavors of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society is a genuine expression of love and Christian Charity. This expression of love is evident in the multitude of meaningful programs and services undertaken by the Ladies Philoptochos Society who coordinate philanthropic work of the Church wherever the need may arise.

Philanthropy that bestows upon the poor and the needy;

Hope you give to the hopeless;

Illuminating Christ's life in darkened hearts;

Your love of God and of neighbor;

Opportunities you provide the underprivileged and forgotten;

Providing for our special children at Saint Basil Academy;

Treasure, Talents, Time you employ as extension of Christ's loving arm;

Your optimistic view of humanity for you see Christ in all people;

Your care of the sick and the suffering;

Your healing broken hearts, broken emotions, and broken lives;

Offering yourselves unselfishly to the least of Christ's brethren;

Being the inner strength of our lives, our parishes, and our church.
