A Special Need, A Special Love – Special Needs Ministry

With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and at the invitation of Fr. Theodore Barbas, Chancellor of the Metropolis of Boston, gifted & educated faithful throughout the Metropolis, together with area clergy, the Embracing Children’s Staff of our MBC program and our Metropolis Special Needs Ministry Staff, gathered at St. Demetrios Church in Weston on January 25th, 2012 to identify certain needs and develop specific programs.

Highlights of the evening included Fr. Anastasios Coulouras and Presvytera Helen, who shared first-hand experience of raising a special needs child into adulthood; Dr. Anton Vrame, Director of the Department of Religious Education for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, who spoke on special needs awareness in our communities and published resources geared to special education; and a short video of the joyous and wholesome benefits an effective Christian special needs program can bring to a community.

We would like to thank Fr. Nicholas Krommydas and the St. Demetrios Parish for their hospitality and all those who attended this first meeting, as their experience and genuine love for God’s special people proved to be heart-warming and invaluable.  For those of you, who could not attend and would like to assist in this ministry, please contact Fr. Ted at FatherTed@boston.goarch.org.  Future meetings will be announced.
