Metropolitan Methodios Participated in RI Greek Independence Celebration

His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios offered the opening prayer and participated at the festivities marking the 189th anniversary of Greek Independence Day at the Rhode Island State House on March 24.    Also participating were the Consul General of Greece in Boston, Constantine Orphanides,  the Rev. Andrew George, Pastor of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cranston; the Rev. Philip Zymaris, Pastor of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Pawtucket, and  the Rev. George Economou, Pastor of the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Newport.  State Senator Leonidas P. Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, East Greenwich, Warwick, West Warwick), read a Resolution marking the occasion.  David Paleologos, Director of the Political Research Center at Boston’s Suffolk University, was the keynote speaker.  Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri welcomed everyone in the State House and offered remarks on the importance of Greek Independence Day and the significant contributions made by the Greek American Community.  Following the festivities in the State House which also included remarks by Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis, General Treasurer Frank T. Caprio and Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, a reception was held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cranston.
